Santa Croce

Bassano del Brenta > East bank - South

Michele Brunelli

The borough Santa Croce is located on the east bank of la Brenta. It borders Centro Storico (to the north), Quartiere Firenze (to the east), San Bassano (to the south east), Merlo (to the south), and San Lazzaro, Borgo Zucco and a small part of San Fortunato (all three to the west). Santa Croce is one of the smallest boroughs of Bassano and one of the densely populated, yet it is possible to spot some roste through the buildings. A ditch visible in Santa Croce is Canale Sanatorio, which brings water from Canale Occidentale di Ponente, Quartiere Firenze, to Borgo Zucco, near the center of Bassano, and to some parts of San Fortunato. Another channel, which also splits from Canale Occidentale di Ponente, flows through Santa Croce and reaches the borough of Merlo.

^^ Canale Sanatorio (looking eastwards): it runs parallel to the right side of the street. It proceeds from Quartiere Firenze, behind the buildings in the background.

<< Canale Sanatorio (looking westwards): its waters flow partly southwards to Quartiere Merlo and partly to Borgo Zucco.

<< Different ditches meet at this crossing between Santa Croce and Quartiere Merlo. Water proceeds from an underground channel that flows from the east under the park (behind the trees, on the right side of the picture).
