San Lazzaro

Bassano del Brenta > East bank - South

Michele Brunelli

The borough San Lazzaro is located in the lowlands on the east bank of la Brenta. It borders la Brenta (to the west), San fortunato (to the northeast), Quartiere Merlo (to the east) and Quartiere Pre' (to the south). A prominent ditch, Rosta Dolfina, originates in the borough of San Lazzaro and splits in other ditches that reach the municipalities located south of Bassano. Rosta Rosą, which originates in San Fortunato, also runs through San Lazzaro in its course to the south.

^^ Ancient catchment point of Roggia (rosta) Morosina, in San Fortunato. The ditches that originate(d) here date back to the 1300s and to the 1500s and are a valuable testimony of the period of Most Serene Republic of Venice.

^^ Part of the hydroelectric power plant of San Lazzaro and San Fortunato. Part of the water runs southwards and feeds Rosta Dolfina, which reaches Quartiere Prč, Rosą and Cartigliano.

^^ Rosta Rosą (looking southwards) in via Cartigliana, in San Lazzaro: it flows towards Parco delle Rogge rural park, between Quartier Pre' and Rosą.

<< Rosta Rosą (looking south east): short after originating in San Fortunato, these channel enters San Lazzaro and feeds a system of ditches in San Lazzaro, Quartier Pre' and Rosą.

^^ Rosta Dolfina (looking northwards) in San Lazzaro: it proceeds from the catchment area in the north and waters Parco delle Rogge rural park, Quartier Prč, through a network of ditches that also reach the municipalities south of Bassano. In the background of the picture it is possible to spot the Sette Comuni plateau where also Rubbio lies.

A minor ditch in via Rivabianca, in San Lazzaro (looking southwards). According to the documents, it takes its water from Rosta Rosą.>>
