Bassano del Brenta > East bank - South
Michele Brunelli
The borough San Fortunato is located on the east bank of la Brenta, not too far from the centre of Bassano. It borders the river la Brenta (to the north), Centro Storico (to the northeastern corner), Borgo Zucco (to the east), Quartiere Merlo (to the southeastern corner) and San Lazzaro (to the south and the west). San Fortunato, together with San Lazzaro, hosts the catchment points of ancient roste and a hydroelectric power plant. Canale Medoaco, which originates in Centro Storico, brings water to the power plant and to the modern catchment system, which has partially replaced the old one. Also Rosta Rosą originates in San Fortunato, splitting from Medoaco few meters before entering San Lazzaro.
<< Canale Meodaco (looking eastwards) in San Fortunato. It feeds the hydroelectric power plant of San Lazzaro and San Fortunato and the southern network of roste that flow through San Lazzaro, Quartiere Pre' and the municipalities of Rosą, Nove, Cartigliano (and partly Rossano).
Rosta Rosą (looking south west) >>
It splits from Canale Medoaco in San Fortunato, powers a small turbine of the hydroelectric power plant, enters San Lazzaro after a few metres (just behind the bend), and runs southwards to feed the network of ditches of the lowlands.
<< Ancient catchment point of Roggia (rosta) Morosina, in San Fortunato. The ditches that originate(d) in this area date back to the 1300s and to the 1500s and are a valuable testimony of the period of the Most Serene Republic of Venice.
