San Bassiano

Bassano del Brenta > East bank - South

Michele Brunelli

The borough San Bassiano is located east of la Brenta in the southern lowlands of Bassano. It borders Quartiere Firenze (to the north) Quartiere Merlo and Santa Croce (to the west), the municipality of Rosą (to the south) and the municipality of Cassola (to the east). Various roste run through the fields of San Bassiano, a prominent one is Canale Occidentale di Ponente, which proceeds from Santa Croce, enters San Bassiano and splits in a number of ditches that reach Rosą.

^^ Canale Occidentale di Ponente (north of the hospital San Bassiano) in a not unusual rainy day. It proceeds from Santa Croce, in the north (in the background), and flows southwards to San Bassiano.

^^ Canale Occidentale di Ponente (looking northwards) near the hospital in San Bassiano. Here, the channel splits in a number of ditches that water the fields of San Bassiano and Rosą.

^^ Canale Orfanatrofio Basso (looking eastwards) in via Crocerone between San Bassiano and Rosą. The ditch splits from Canale Occidentale di Ponente in San Bassiano and joins Rosta Rosą in Rosą.

A typical view in Veneto, still in 2011: >>

the economic boom has lead to a merger between the industrial or business centre landscape and the farmland landscape. Even though urbanization processes have progressively replaced farmland with built up areas, in many cases modern centres co-exist with agricultural landscapes. In this picture (looking northwards), a business centre lies in the background of an irrigation ditch. The rosta, called Canale Bianchi-Santa Croce according to the documents, flows from the north (in the background) toward the south. It splits from Canale Occidentale di Ponente, immediately south of the Hospital San Bassiano and joins Canale Orfanatrofio Basso in localitą Baggi, between San Bassiano and Rosą.
