Bassano del Brenta > West bank - North
Michele Brunelli
The borough of Campese is located on the west bank of la Brenta, at the foot of Sette Comuni plateau, below the borough of Rubbio. In the past, Campese was a contrada unita 'associated quarter/district' of the Cimbrian federation of Sette Comuni and later it was part of the municipality of Campese-Campolongo. The borough of Campese borders la Brenta (to the east), Rubbio (to the west), Valrovina (to the east and the south) and the municipaliy of Campolongo (to the north). At its southernmost tip, it also borders San(t') Eusebio. Campese, apart from stretching along la Brenta, is also watered by la Rea, a tributary of la Brenta. The sources of la Rea and its entire course are in Campese. In Campese there is also Canale Ca' Barziza, which originates in Campolongo and brings water to the hydroelectric power plant of Margnan and to Tronco Basso, a channel that in turn feeds the network of roste of the lowlands, in the eastern and southern parts of Bassano and the municipalities nearby.
^^ Bassano seen from the municipality of Solagna (looking southwards): Campese stretches on the right of the river la Brenta, while the center of Solagna is on the left side. The channel that runs in Campese, parallel to the road, is Canale Barziza. It then crosses the river and flows through Margnan-Conca d'Oro: its waters reach the eastern and southern parts of Bassano.
^^ La Rea (looking northwards): la Rea is a tributary of la Brenta. It originates in Campese, streams southwards through the borough and flows into la Brenta still in Campese, short before San Eusebio. Campese is in the foreground, while the mountain in the background belongs to Solagna.
^^ Valstagna (looking northwards): la Brenta flows between Valstagna and Carpane', receives the water of tributary Oliero in Oliero southern district of Valstagna, runs southwards to Campolongo and enters Campese, in the northern part of Bassano.
^^ River Oliero (looking westwards): it is one of the shortest rivers in the world. Yet, it is long enough as to have a bridge (to the right, in the background). It originates in the cave located just behind the bridge and joins Brenta a few metres after it. In the picture, the place where Oliero flows into la Brenta.

In Campolongo, near Campese, water of la Brenta is piped into Canale Barziza, which runs the hydroelectric power plant of Margnan and brings water to Tronco-Basso. This channel, in turn, feeds the eastern part of Bassano from the north to the south.
